MoodBoard
Because the style of my animation is focused around heavily contrasting and saturated cell shaded lighting of landscapes I've included many works that showcase that with the kind of lighting that I would like to incorporate into my animation, along with the art style. Many of the setting I looked at are field environments, forest, landscapes and things that would fit into those landscapes such as trees, houses, signs etc. I have looked at a variety of sources and artists that I feel captured the look I wish to achieve these include the style and work done on Dragon Nest a Korean MMORPG that has a style that I wish to emulate in my final animation. What attracted me to the style was the heavy use of bright and saturated colors that stand out even more with the contrasting colors of the grey/orange buildings and the heavy shadows. On my mood-board I have work done for the film Spirited Away which includes the landscapes that they used for the background of the animation and some of the concept art that wouldn't be used in the final film, my reasons for including this is largely the same for including the work form Dragon Nest however the work is a lot more minimalist in terms of the objects adorning the landscape which doesn't overwhelm the viewer, and creates a clear point of interest. The work done by Yoshiki Haruhana is largely the same reason as to why I've chosen Dragon Nest, heavy use of bright and saturated colors however Yoshiki's work (or the work seen in Wind Waker HD) is an extreme version of the style of Dragon nest with a cell shaded style that has a much heavier contrast.
