Nude Self-portraiture

Many of the artists that I've looked at have all been preceding so I've begun to examine more contemporary artists to see how the present themselves and if the way the represent themselves can influence my own work and how I represent myself.

While many of these works appear staged which is the opposite of what I'm aiming for these works give the viewer an insight into their lives as not just women but artists. Often in these works they show the nude body as just a nude body and not a sexual object, this is often done by the way they position these bodies.
Sarah Maples, Self portrait with Fried eggs incorporates nudity through the use of a book. Something I like about this image the naturalness of it, it doesn't appear staged as if it was taken in the moment. For Sarah Maple her art is very much about her self and identity as both a feminist, Muslim women. In my painting I will be exploring my own identity and what i consider normal and natural to myself.
Sarah Maple normalizes and removes the sexual aspect of female nudity by inserting humor.
