Mulvey, L. (1975). Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema. Screen, 16(3), 6-18. doi: 10.1093/screen/16.3.6

This essay gives an insight into the exploration and objectification of  women in Hollywood during the 70s, arguing that majority of films is viewed through a hetero-normative male perspective. Author Laura Mulveys essay brought the term "male gaze" into the academic lexicon and eventually into common parlance. While in the context of the essay is Hollywood cinema I find that the theory can be applied to any creative medium which features women such as, painting, drawing or film, which allowed me to apply it to my work, which featured the female nude prominently.

Self, D. (2018). Arts News: Nelson-Atkins Acquires Guerilla Girls Portfolio - KC STUDIO.  Retrieved from http://kcstudio.org/arts-news-nelson-atkins-acquires-guerilla-girls-portfolio/

Dana Self explores the Guerrilla girls condensing their history in a small tight-nit format and their       continued relevance in society with the birth of the #Metoo movement. Dana Self has been a               contemporary art curator for 13 years and has been publishing her work on the KC STUDIO                website     and magazine, KC studio is a reliable source being funded by the Kansas city                     government. While the article discusses the purchase of the painting it has  offered me insight into the relevancy of the Guerrilla girls not only during their rise to fame in the 80's but their continued relevancy in the 21st century.

Italianways.com. (2015). “Susanna and the elders” in Italian 16th-century art | Italian Ways. [online] Available at: http://www.italianways.com/susanna-and-the-elders-in-italian-16th-century-art/ [Accessed 18 Mar. 2019].

Italian ways is a website/Magazine that gives an insight into Italian culture, lifestyle, history and the everyday. The source is reputable as it also has many sponsors who are just as official as the site such as Italian stories a prominent Italian travel/tourist agency, loveitaly (which is a website focused on the restoration of  Italian artifacts)etc. The article provided me on integral information on the biblical story of  Susanna and the Elder, and how artists interpreted that subject matter to create magnificent oil paintings during the baroque and renaissance.
