10 Interesting Companies

In terms of companies that have internships I couldn't find any listed up on their careers section and that it is its own section where its a free for all and you can just submit your portfolio and you are either left with deafening silence or given a response.

Overseas Internships

As stated in an earlier post working at Jagex would be a dream job for me, and one thing I found pretty cool is that they offer internships that usually take place over the summer an last from 1-2 months and unlike most internships its fully paid. Within the internship form it states that Jagex takes in internships during the summer each year, because this company is located in England their intern intake is from June to August. One thing I have noticed with these internships is that many companies don't list intern roles to apply for they instead ask that you submit a portfolio and a resume and on the of chance you may be selected depending on the quality of your work. Even though Jagex is located in England a completly foreign place I may consider applying their for an internship next year however I would need to organise my means of travel, place to stay and a Visa.

Like Jagex Blizzard is located in a completely foreign place, being located in America however unlike Jagex they do list internship roles available but they also have an option for you to submit your portfolio and if your work is of high quality they may consider bringing on an intern. Looking on their website they only have a certain period where they intake interns, that period being during the summer with submissions taking place during September-December the previous year. Like Jagex your work is paid and the internship lasts for 12 weeks, well over a month. Working a Blizzard would be a dream however the hoops of getting to America and paying for everything is much to worth it.

South Island Internships

When looking at internships in Southland their wasn't many in terms of painting and concept art, however I did find many galleries and Museum who would take on interns. One gallery I looked at was the Christchurch gallery which offers internships to students or recent graduates. Looking at the website it appears as if their is no specific time or period where they accept interns and instead I'd simply have to contact them.

While this is an old listing an has expired I have found that the Dunedin Gallery/museum offers internships to graduates. The internship lasts form 6-8 months, and I am unsure if this role is unpaid or paid. One of the positive aspects of this internship is that the location is fairly close to Dunedin city center and is only a 10 minute walk. While the screenshot of have listed has expired I found that an internship is provided once each year, with the application period ending late January, so I could  consider this an option for next year.

North Island Internships

Pikpok is a wellington based video game company creating games for the mobile market. Like some other companies they don't specify if they require an intern or list any intern roles and like Jagex appears to be a free for all where you can just submit your application and hope that they consider you as an intern. 

Weta Digital is located in Wellington and offers internships and something called the rookie program which reward participants with a sum of money, recognition and a job in the industry. While at the moment no internships are listed at weta Digital I have seen and heard of people interning at Weta and believe that it's very much like pikpok where its a free for all and the higher quality your portfolio the more likely you are to be considered.

Other Internships

Ubisoft, creators of Assassins creed offer an internship program at both its American and France studios.

mukpuddy animation is an Auckland based Animation company that makes animations for young kiwis.

The adam art gallery offers internships to students and recent graduates and is located in wellington.

Sega offers internships at both its Canadian and American branches.
